I seem to be in a minority in my disappointment with the news channels. I used to enjoy the earlier avtaars with Pranoy Roy, Vinod Dua, Rajdeep Sardesai, Barkha Dutt et al. There was content, research and novelty. I used to dislike the Hindi news channels who I felt were inclined towards sensationalism.
Now I find that the English channels are inclined towards sensationalism. And the Hindi channels have gone beyond that. They just don't make sense to me. I have tried watching India TV because its so popular and I thought I was missing something. But whenever I tried, I could not watch it beyond 3 to 4 minutes. I cant even begin to talk about the content cos they were talking of some ghost in a lift or how a dog found its way home as if it was the greatest feat. It was nonsense at its worst. And they presume that the viewer is 5yrs old or mentally handicapped. And to think that this is the same Rajat Sharma who I used to like in 'Aap ki Adalat' in the 90s.
But somehow India TV, I believe, is winning the race because all the other channels seem to be copying it in their stupidity and moronic programmes.
